My name is Annalisa de Sena and I’m a 15-year-old girl from New Jersey.
Whenever my family gets together for holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, they encourage me to pursue my dreams of singing and acting, and of course they always ask me to play a song for them. With one of my three younger brothers on bass, another on drums and my dad on guitar, it’s a family tradition to put on a show for our relatives at our annual Christmas party.
Two years ago I was introduced to a song that would touch my family members’ hearts each Christmas, going back to when my Mom and Dad first met. The song is called “There’s Still Christmas." A family friend named Stevie Betts co-wrote the song long before I was born with his friend Dennis Bourke, who is a great musician and a decorated Vietnam veteran.
Unfortunately, I never got the honor of meeting Stevie. He died of brain cancer just before I was born while residing in California. Although all the information I’ve learned about him are from stories, home videos, and faded photos, he's changed my life completely. After watching an old video of Stevie playing and singing There's Still Christmas with my family at a Christmas long ago, I’d fallen in love with the sound of the gorgeous acoustic guitar and heart-felt lyrics, so I immediately began practicing to perform it for my family that upcoming Christmas.
The day came, and after the song ended I looked around to see my family teary-eyed and smiling. That’s when I realized how much Stevie, and this song, meant to the people surrounding me, and if it could touch the hearts of my family, then it could touch the hearts of the rest of the world too.
If you listen to the words, There's Still Christmas is about people who are having a hard time, people who are in pain, but they always have the hope and joy that comes even it's just for one day each year - Christmas Day.
Since the song is about giving people hope where they have troubles, I decided to sell copies of the song so I can make a donation
to the
. Like the song, they give help families who are having a difficult time with illness have better days.
Please buy a copy of "There's Still Christmas" and help me donate, so The Ronald McDonald House can continue to do their work of helping children and their families.
