"This is my cousin, Jake Walsh. This past May, at only 8 years old, Jake was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. None of us knew much about the disease, but we knew it wasn't good.
Life for Jake was a quick change, and it isn't as easy as any normal 8-year-old's life. He must check his blood sugar by lancing his finger 6 to 10 times a day and is checked every night while sleeping, which can become tiring for his family as well. He wears an insulin pump 24 hours a day and must endure painful needle site changes every 48 hours He has to count all of his carbs that he ever takes in- whether it's one chip or a whole meal- so he knows how much insulin to pump. Without Insulin, Jake would die. He won't ever know a life different to this routine.
Jake is still the one of the funniest kids I know. He hasn't let this effect his happiness, and has the same attitude towards life that he did before he was diagnosed back in May. Please support JDRF and the There's Still Christmas project to show Jake that he will always be supported."
